HTC has announced the debut of its virtual reality storefront, Viveport, which is set to rollout out to HTC Vive owners later this year. While Valve’s Steam platform will still serve as a central hub for virtual reality games, Viveport will diverge into a more varied range of content.
Accessible via the HTC Vive’s Home, Viveport will serve as a customizable gateway to educational content, as well as entertainment-based experiences that take advantage of the hardware.
Viveport will feature content across exciting, new categories for VR–like information, edutainment, social media, 360? video, news, sports, health, travel, and shopping. The upcoming release will also introduce an update to Vive Home, which is our personal and customizable virtual space with interactive widgets and more.
Alongside the announcement, HTC revealed a developer beta is just around the corner and scheduled to arrive in the coming weeks. The general public will have to wait until later this fall to see the storefront on their headsets.
